Opportunities for climate & health scientists & explorers
GRANTS
The Daniels Family Sustainable Energy Foundation's mission includes supporting the creation and diffusion of new science-based solutions to climate change, especially to address life-threatening warming trends worldwide. A key driver of climate instability is the warming of the oceans, whose record temperatures have been connected by scientists to recent, devastating natural disasters.

To better understand this trend, the Foundation is pioneering an innovative grants program which puts research vessels at scientists' disposal for trans-oceanic as well as coastal expeditions.
Current Request for Proposals
The Foundation's is currently accepting grant proposals for scientific expeditions requiring the use of its vessels for climate and ocean research. Priority will be given to proposals focused on producing new scientific information with a very clear and defined scientific question. Research areas the Foundations will consider include:

• The impact of climate change on ocean temperatures on the US West Coast
• Changes in the Gulf Stream and Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current
• The impact of global warming on coastal communities on the health of North and Central American coasts
• Increases in pathogen monitoring and screening in coastal waters in North and Central America

Selected projects will be awarded the use of the Foundation's vessels and crew at no cost to the the scientific team. The team, however, will remain responsible for operational costs (including insurance, fueling, mooring etc.). In rare cases, the Foundation will consider proposals that require additional funding (beyond the use of the vessel and crew) in circumstances where the applicants have created a well-funded international collaboration, and an exceptional communications strategy.
